Instagram appears to be developing labels for content that was "generated by Meta AI."

It might not be long until Meta releases consumer-facing generative AI tools based on their new Llama 2 model. For Instagram, the business looks to develop many new generative AI capabilities, including labels enabling content producers to specify which photographs were "generated by Meta AI."

According to screenshots posted by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, who frequently teases upcoming features in Meta's applications, such is the case. Paluzzi recently shared a snapshot of an in-app notice explaining how Instagram would eventually categorize photos made with generative AI techniques. The notification states, "The creator or Meta said this content was created or edited with AI." More labels reveal that it was "generated by Meta AI" and that "content created with AI is typically labelled so that it can be easily detected."

A Meta representative declined to comment. The screenshot, however, implies that the business is interested in assisting customers in identifying when AI was used to generate content, much like Google and other players in the AI market. Researchers and politicians have expressed worries about how the technology may be used to facilitate the dissemination of false information or otherwise deceive people as generative AI tools have grown more extensively employed. EARLIER THIS MONTH, seven AI businesses, including Meta, vowed to implement some AI safety precautions, such as watermarks for AI-generated material.

Mark Zuckerberg has made repeated allusions to Meta's consumer-facing generative AI aspirations, even though the company hasn't yet provided many specifics. In a quarterly earnings call last week, the CEO stated, "We're also building several new products using Llama that will work across our services." "There are many ways AI could support human connection and expression in our apps: creative tools that make sharing content simpler and more enjoyable, agents that serve as assistants, coaches, or that can facilitate interactions with businesses and creators, among other things."

Other creative AI-powered capabilities for Instagram have also been identified by Paluzzi, including a "message summary" option for condensing lengthy DMs and new artistic tools for editing Stories.
