Cyberpunk EP Review: "Lilith" by Venturer
Venturer's Lilith is a blend of
desolated emptiness and painful fragility with an erupting drum and bass storm.
The album has a dark, eerie vibe that is a part of the music. It will take the
listeners on an eerie voyage through a cyberpunk-inspired soundscape.
"Genesis" opens as
resonant bass beats rumble beneath aching organ notes, which appear above the
top. The unsettling, skittering sound waves traverse the air as if crawling
with insects. The synth's hollow, bent bending is twisted when the organ climbs
up in nervous lines and a soft piano smacks. The darkness builds in the bass,
and strings begin to ache and bend, leaving you feeling hurt and abandoned. The
harp swoops into the background so that it softens the sounds. And underneath,
huge bass rattles. The track fades away at the sound of a hollow wave.
Soft, ethereal waves of synths
lower sound as soft, higher notes dance in a fluttering tune that begins
"Endless Agony." The bass gets a boost to provide more depth as the
distantly moving; high synths glide diaphanously. The throbbing drums propel
the music forward with rough, hard-edged bass. Soft vocals that have the
feeling of reverence.
As the arpeggios swell, the
synth is thin and fragile. It flutters as a sharp bass growls beneath the
rhythms that pulsate. The distant, melancholy synth floats above the pounding
bass and drums that make the music once more.
A spooky, elevated synth flies
through before the rumbling glowing arpeggio sways into the beat. In the
background, the haunted high synth shifts, and then brutal bass cuts and
stutters in the midst of the relentless drums. The choral vocals create a
sacred atmosphere over the pounding bass before the silence is sunk.
"Sentience" commences
as sweeping synths swell into the song's openness while the slowly rising round
synth chords sway. The synths are medium-high in their reverberations, and
fast-moving arpeggios add a sense of urgency and depth to the track as they
echo off. A massive, all-encompassing bass blast deep below the shivering
arpeggio as it develops.
The drums are now pounding hard
into the rhythm. It is also a force of nature that is rumbling beneath the
arpeggios that are agitated when they begin to ache and shake. A steady, heavy
drumbeat provides more direction as the muscular bass roars in darkly beneath
the arpeggios. A somber, pipe-organ-like synth is a terrifying, raging melodic
line that creeps across the drums before fading into silence.
Drums that pound and pulsate,
as well as the raging bass, create a fierce attack on your ears in an
unbalanced track that cuts throughout "Escape Plan" as it begins to
open. The bass and drums make for a thrilling, tense motion as arpeggios swell
rapidly, with the digital sound flitting swiftly throughout the track. Voices
in hollow voices call out as the upwardly sweeping synth lines grow and repeat.
In the background, the scream
of bass and drums goes on. In the background, the electric guitar leaps and
screams, bouncing in an intricately moving solo. The track comes back to bass
that is snarling and piercing, as well as the drums pounding as the guitar, in
a tense state, cries out. The track arcs and glides with ferocious precision
over the slamming dark below before the track closes.
"Revolt" begins with
mournful medium-high synths as arpeggios that ripplingly glide across an
unsettling background. After a quick, brisk drum beat, sharp bass shards,
jagged shards of bass, and throbbing drums beat the beat. A foreboding,
elevated synth hovers above the heavy drums and an unstoppable, medium-high
sonic pulse.
The synth expands, rough-edged,
and throbs often before arcing shimmering arpeggios dance over the snarling
bass which swoops down below. The steady drums lead the music forward until it
breaks up into medium-high, melodic notes that echo into the air.
The miasma that swirls in the
distance increases the tension prior to the explosion sharp synths drop into
tense patterns. Arpeggios that sparkle brightly dance over the sharply-edged
bass and constant drum beat. The music fades into hazy shadows when it comes to
an end.
The vast, cavernous space
filled with a slow echoing rumble and metallic soaring to the opening of
"Lilith's Revenge." Sharp-edged arpeggios that whirl rapidly flow
over a swell of fast drumbeats and choral sounds. There's a feeling of danger
during those choral swells, and the arpeggios provide a powerful movement in
the song.
The shinny, tight sounds flow
through the track as an oscillating, nasal note pattern intensifies the
tension. An arpeggio that is wildly twisting writhes as the choral voices push
to intensify the intensity of the music. Drums create a steady rhythmic throb,
and the rapid clear, crystal-clear arpeggiating notes fall into the music.
The bass is intense as an
arpeggio that resembles a harpsichord in a trance-like manner and is
accompanied by an arcing wave of synth flare. The arpeggios sway and infuse the
music with an energy that is roiling as the track fades away.
"Libertas" starts as
a pipe organ brings its huge, darkly brooding, and darkly eerie presence to
bear. In the background, slow notes unfold into a vast space packed with shadow
and power. There's a fervent fear that permeates the music as a fast arpeggio
is sounded and fades in the distance. The track is a fittingly mysterious
closing for the record.
