Introduction
Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero was supposed to be released in Japan on April 22nd, 2022, which is this month (as of this writing). However, it was pushed back owing to an illegal network penetration at Toei Studios. That means we'll have to wait till the new date is announced. After that, let's talk about how we got here.
So far, the timeline
On May 7th, 2021, Toei's European division accidentally published a single text online stating, "new DragonBall Super Movie coming in 2022." it's prompted people to speculate about the film's plot. The theories varied from a cinematic version of the DragonBall Super manga's Moro Arc to a Broly sequel to making Frieza's sibling Cooler legit. But I just waited to see what the official word was. I failed to include in this post some concept art that was shown off when the film was announced on May 9th, 2021.
Pan in a school uniform, Krillin as a Sheriff, Piccolo with a home, and Goku's design. And on July 23, we got a CGI animation tech demo of Goku. It's fueled curiosity about what the narrative would be. And I continued to wait.
Then, on October 6, 2021, we received our first trailer, which was shown at the New York Comic-Con.
While this provided us a sense of the premise and the fact that it took place after the Buu Saga/Arc, there were still several issues that needed to be answered. Who were the newcomers? What were they doing with the Red Ribbon Army? And would Pan be the primary character and rise to prominence?
The Hypothesis
The Red Ribbon Army moniker is being utilized by two persons seeking its revival and vengeance on Goku and his allies, according to the plot elements so far. They sent two androids, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2, who proclaimed themselves as "superheroes." As a result, Pan is kidnapped, and Gohan sets out to rescue her.
I'll confess that Gohan's significant role is purely speculative based on what the past two or three trailers have shown. And I don't want to get my expectations up about Gohan perhaps being the main hero or having a significant role in the picture.
So yet, we know very little about the delay
Before I end with my last views, I'd want to talk about the snafu that caused the film's postponement. In a press statement on March 7, 2022, Tori reported that a third party had fraudulently infiltrated its internal network the previous Sunday. And, because the incident is being probed, not much is known. As a result, the release date of DragonBall Super: Super Hero has been pushed back.
The Last Word
Finally, I'm thrilled that we'll be receiving more DragonBall Super animated stuff. However, I'm cautiously hopeful about the narrative of the picture. At best, Gohan can rescue the day, and at worst, Goku is handed the victory out of nowhere. Time will tell.
